B11th Run from "Susie Ana
by David J. Stewart
While in Honolulu in 2007, I had the wonderful opportunity to hear and meet Alan Akaka and Genoa Keawe (a legend in Hawaii). Little did I know that she would pass into eternity one month later. I'm glad I met her before she departed. I bought a few CD's of Genoa Keawe's singing while there, and am glad I did. I believe Alan Akaka is playing steel guitar on all the recordings. Hula Hou is the name of the album on which Genoa sings Susie Ana E. I tabbed out this B11th run from the song. Here's the clip from the song so you can hear it. It's great b11th playing.
A lot of steel players make the mistake I think of avoiding the B11th. Next to the C6th, the B11th is a must for Hawaiian music, and only requires a bit of retuning (B11th is great for Sand, Mapuana, Hana, How D'Ya Do, and many others).
